The Government of Maldives through the National Bureau of Statistics of the Ministry of Finance and Treasury, with support from PARIS21, led the official launch of the NSDS process in Male on 27 November 2017. State Minister Mohamed Ashmalee delivered the opening remarks highlighting the importance of information technology in modernising the statistical system to produce needed statistics to support the development of Maldives. He encouraged improved connectivity and better data sharing across the national statistical system to facilitate statistical development in the country. The launch is to signal the development of its 2nd generation NSDS that will integrate the country’s commitment to produce nationally-relevant SDG indicators. Following the official launch, a 3-day country training-workshop on NSDS was conducted with various representatives from government ministries, agencies, non-government organisations, and civil society. A draft strategic framework will be prepared as an outcome of the training-workshop which will serve as basis for the development of the new NSDS 2018-2030.
