Evolving data ecosystem

The emergence of digital technologies has given rise to data sources and analytical methods, which were previously not possible. The community of interacting entities and the policy environment in which new data users and producers operate, creates an extended data ecosystem of many new actors.

For National Statistical Systems, the evolution of data ecosystem within and between countries offers not only challenges, but also new opportunities.

New data sources

It is progressively acknowledged that approaches in traditional statistical practices have to be complemented by exploiting new and non-traditional data sources.

New stakeholders

It is an increasing number of new players in the data ecosystem. Adapting to the evolving data ecosystem, traditional stakeholders will need to acquire new capacities.

New capacities

Capacities in emerging technologies and analytical methods within an enabling policy environment will all need to be further assessed and developed.
