PISTA: the Path to Innovating Statistical Systems

PARIS21 has developed the Platform for Innovations in Statistics (PISTA) to help statistical agencies become more responsive to rapidly changing data demands.

What it does

PISTA is an online platform that collects information on innovations and statistical capacity in official statistics and systematically matches identified challenges to potential solutions.

What it is for

The purpose of PISTA is to increase the adoption rate of innovative approaches in National Statistical Systems.

Who can use it

PISTA is intended for stakeholders that monitor national development plans. This includes sector monitoring agents, statisticians, planners and data collection specialists.

PISTA solutions are part of NSDS development, however, anyone interested in innovations in statistics or statistical capacity development can benefit from PISTA.

How it works

Practice

Good practices are invaluable to encourage adoption amongst others. PISTA displays case studies where innovations in statistics have already been adopted by the public sector.

Innovations

PISTA collects, classifies and showcases innovations for official statistics and makes them accessible for everyone.

Statistical Capacity

PISTA combines data from various statistical capacity assessments to give a comprehensive overview of the state of official statistics.

Typology

PISTA uses the Generic Activities Model for Statistical Organizations (GAMSO) as a standard typology to match innovations to statistical capacity challenges.

Adoption

PARIS21 supports national statistical systems in the adoption of innovative approaches in their statistical activities through consultative practices.
