Reusing Citizen-Generated Data for Official Reporting
A quality framework for national statistical office-civil society organisation engagement This working paper provides a first practical yet comprehensive and powerful framework for NSOs to engage with alternative data producers. It will also help them identify, evaluate and use citizen-generated data (CGD) for reporting on sustainable development. In this context, the paper provides a first entry point to participatory approaches to data collection and analysis, including the use of alternative data sources. The paper offers examples of NSOs that are improving the availability of data for decision making by extending the use of citizen-generated data. These experiences prove the potential of CGD to provide information on areas relevant to the SDGs. They also demonstrate how collaborating with CGD producers can lead to improved coverage of disaggregated data and expand data dissemination through partnerships with local organisations.
