Trained as a mathematician and econometrician, Andrea G. Ries started her career at the Swiss National Statistical Office in charge of labor statistics. She has also worked at the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) on sustainability standards, as well as on issues regarding palm oil, timber and energy.

Since 2003, Ms. Ries has held positions working in development at the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and the World Bank. She held responsibilities for food security and multilateral portfolios, and was responsible for the Voluntary National Review of Switzerland in 2018. She is currently leading the Team on Effectiveness for the Co-Chair of Switzerland to the Global Partnership for Effective Development Cooperation (GPEDC).
