Emily Poskett is head of the International Development Team in the UK Office for National Statistics (ONS). She joined ONS in 2016 to create a new team which uses the UK’s Official Development Assistance budget to support statistical modernisation in countries in the developing world. The team prioritises, plans and leads the provision of high-quality technical assistance by ONS to build the capacity of statistical systems in developing countries.
Ms. Poskett has developed a team which works at two levels: developing medium-term partnerships with key national statistical offices on statistical modernisation, and harnessing ONS expertise to support global statistical programmes and share best practices through the international statistical system.
Previously, Ms. Poskett was a statistician at the UK Department for International Development (DFID) for 15 years. She worked with DFID programmes in Africa, the Middle East and North Africa, and Eastern Europe and Central Asia, supporting statistical capacity building and the use of statistical data in DFID programmes. Prior to leaving DFID, she was the head of Profession for the Statistics Cadre, leading recruitment, workforce planning, communications and continuing professional development for a cadre of 50+ professional statisticians working across DFID.
